Prime Minister Donald Tusk posted on X that he received a report from the Army’s Operational Command. The report confirmed that drones were shut down after crossing into Polish territory and posing a possible threat.

Tusk also said he had informed NATO’s Secretary General about the actions taken by Poland.

The Polish armed forces were on high alert overnight Tuesday and into Wednesday. Officials said this was due to a new wave of heavy Russian airstrikes targeting sites in Ukraine.

Warsaw’s Chopin Airport posted an alert on its website. It warned passengers that flight operations were paused because airspace over part of the country was closed. However, the airport itself remained open.

Poland Reports Repeated Airspace Violations

Poland has previously reported that Russian military objects entered its airspace during attacks on Ukraine.

In August, Poland’s defense minister said a flying object crashed and exploded in a cornfield in eastern Poland. It was identified as a Russian drone and described as a clear provocation by Russia.

In March, Polish jets were scrambled after a Russian missile briefly crossed into Polish airspace on its way to western Ukraine.

Back in 2022, a missile—likely fired by Ukraine in an attempt to intercept a Russian strike—landed in Poland and killed two people.
