A Russian glide bomb hit the village of Yarova in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region on Tuesday morning. At the time, people were standing in line outdoors to collect their monthly pensions.

The blast killed at least 24 people and injured 19 others, according to Ukraine’s Emergency Service. Most of the victims were elderly. Vadym Filashkin, the Donetsk regional head, confirmed that 23 of the dead were pensioners.

The strike occurred around 11 a.m., less than 10 kilometers (6 miles) from the active front line.

🇵🇱 Poland Responds with Airspace Alert

Following the attack in Ukraine, Poland raised its military alert level. The Operational Command of Poland’s Armed Forces issued a statement on social media:

“To ensure the security of Polish airspace, the operational commander of the Polish armed forces has activated all necessary procedures.”

The Polish military activated both aircraft and ground-based defense systems. They reached their highest level of alert, including radar and reconnaissance support.

✈️ Flights Affected at Warsaw’s Chopin Airport

Chopin Airport in Warsaw informed passengers that airspace restrictions had temporarily halted flight operations. However, the airport itself remained open during the alert.

Officials said these were preventative actions, aimed at protecting the public and areas near the Ukrainian border.

Yarova resident Hennadii Trush said his wife was killed in the blast as she waited to collect the pension of her bedridden mother-in-law. Afterward, Trush fled Yarova with his elderly mother, who was carried out on a stretcher.

In shock and with soot still on his face, Trush wept as he described the scene of the attack. “It was beyond words,” he told The Associated Press. “Before, strikes landed on the outskirts. This time it was right in the center of the village.”
